What is a Life Coach anyways? Why would anyone ever need one of those? The term “Life Coach” has come to represent a number of different health and wellness educational opportunities and services available to facilitate successful life changes for any individuals who want to make their life better, more fulfilling, more enjoyable, more meaningful. Recently, life coaching and spiritual/holistic healing have begun to cross paths offering individuals, who have lost confidence in the traditional medical systems and fallen back from the church, treatment and support options for a wide variety of mental, physical, and spiritual health concerns.
How does a Life Coach become “qualified”? Life Experience, educational background, specialized learning, and employment history. We all know that “one auntie” or “one uncle” of ours or of our friends who always seems to be approachable, easy to talk to, has good ideas, common sense solutions, and is always very supportive of whatever we are going through. Those special “aunties” and “uncles” are the ones who communicate from the heart with empathy and compassion. A Life Coach is much like those special aunties and uncles. We are willing to show our vulnerabilities and share our failures, trauma, and lessons learned all in the name of helping others find greater peace and joy in their life. Our goal is to assist others in their own life growth and wellness journeys.
Most life coaches come into this line of work with a toolbelt full of tools they acquired during their own healing and growth journeys. Some coaches focus on healing, some on educating, some on counselling, and some on inspiring. Some coaches have recovered from deep trauma, some have been steered to this work by natural tendencies to help others, and some coaches have been recruited based on their unique skill set. Some coaches focus on physical health, some on spiritual/holistic health, some on mental health, and some on intellectual health.
There is no shame in reaching out to a life coach or spiritual/holistic practitioner for assistance in any area of wellbeing in your life. Everyone is busy. Busy with work. Busy with school. Busy with raising children. Busy with caring for elders. Busy managing chronic health issues. Busy volunteering. Just busy! We do not all have the time or the patience to learn all the neat tips and tricks useful in making our lives more fulfilling and enjoyable. A small business will hire a bookkeeper because they have neither the time nor the burning desire to acquire the skills to manage that on their own. We take our vehicles to get an oil change because we do not have the tools at home to do that ourselves. We all have the potential to complete that task with enough time and interest and the correct tools, and yet we still pay someone else to do that for us. We need to keep working at removing the stigma around reaching out for support in those areas we just do not have time to learn everything about for ourselves. I mean hey, someone needs to work in all the other professions to keep this world going! Coaches are here to assist you in maintaining your best health possible so that you can keep going with less stress and less limitations.
It is 2020, year of the “Covid-19 Pandemic”, which has driven our population to higher suicide rates, higher overdose rates, higher reports of domestic abuse and violence, higher reports of depression in all age groups. Despite the statistics, there is an ever-growing POSITIVE ENERGY MOVEMENT in our society today that is showing itself in the form of life coaching and holistic and spiritual health modalities. The followers and supporters of this Positive Energy Movement have been flooding our social media accounts with positive affirmations, positive life quotes, inspirational quotes and stories, inspirational art, resource materials and support groups and coaches, and so much more. The goal is to overpower the negative energy perpetuated in our fear-mongering mainstream media and to help heal all those who are drowning in the negative life streams.
There are trauma healing coaches, meditation coaches, yoga coaches, manifestation coaches, energy healing coaches, small business development coaches, employee development coaches, personal wellness growth & healing coaches, and so many more. All here to help you be the healthiest, happiest version of YOU.
I have been asked numerous times, what kind of coach are you, Heather? I am not going to lie to you, I struggle to answer that question. My background is in business and relationship development; my natural tendencies are to be a “fixer”; and my personality type labels me as a “nurturer”. I asked my neighbor recently, who is also one of my best friends, “how do you think I should answer that question?” His response was this, “tell them you are helping the world, one person at a time”. Well there you have it folks, that is exactly what I am doing. I am helping the world one person at a time. I am helping people overcome false beliefs about themselves. I am helping people learn to set personal boundaries to protect their energy against toxic people. I am helping people set goals and helping remove the limitations between where they are and where they want to be. I am educating people about how their childhood affects their adult relationships. I am giving people energy healing to quiet the noise in their heads and promote healing in their physical bodies. I am listening to their concerns and helping them design workable solutions to life frustrations and challenges. I am teaching empathy and compassion and mindfulness.
If you are thinking of reaching out for support in any area of your life, after I talk to you I might just decide a combination of energy healing, empathy and mindfulness training, and goal setting is in order. Or perhaps you only need a lesson in time management or some quick tips in conflict resolution to deal with a problematic boss. Perhaps you need help in understanding your emotions. Maybe you just need an opportunity to vent and relax on the Reiki table. As a “facilitator” of emotional health and wellness, it is my job to help you find the solutions that work best for you and what you believe in. I am not a pushy salesperson trying to get you to buy into services and techniques I do not feel you need. I really am just that “special auntie” who wants you to feel more joy and less pain in your life. Being raised on a farm turned me into a multi-skilled farm girl with a large chunk of common sense and I have carried that multi-skill mentality and common sense forward with me.
Everyone’s life experience is different and a Life Coach has no intention of robbing you of any of your intended life experiences, we simply seek to enhance your experiences and arm you with knowledge you may not have received in school or at home growing up.
You are very much holding the steering wheel in your own life. Where do you want to go? How do you want to get there? What is stopping you?
